Plants and Pedagogy: The Role of Female Botanical Artists in Medical Education, 1726-1961
The University of Bristol (UoB) and the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE) are pleased to announce the availability of this fully-funded AHRC Collaborative Doctoral Studentship. The scholarship includes fees and a maintenance stipend. The duration is 45 months. The student will be expected to spend most of their time at RBGE with regular visits to Bristol.
The project will draw on collections of botanical teaching diagrams at RBGE to situate female artists in relation to an important yet little-noticed dimension of botanical illustration, namely, its role in the teaching of medicine.
